About Reiki
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
A Japanese form of energy healing — universal life force energy is channelled to promote relaxation, relieve pain, reduce stress, and potentially aid in healing while reducing symptoms of illness. Reiki healing is a complementary therapy to be used alongside conventional medical treatments, not as a replacement. Mikao Usui developed Usui Reiki Ryoho, the most current form of Reiki, in 1922. However, people have practiced Reiki for about 2,500 years.
Reiki sessions can be done in-person or remotely. Everything in the universe is interconnected, so energy is not limited by physical distance, and an individuals energy field extends beyond physical boundaries. Practitioners can send healing energy to recipients regardless of their location.
During an in-person Reiki session, gentle touch or hand placements on the body guide the energy, aiming to restore balance and facilitate the body's natural healing processes. Remote or distant Reiki uses intention and visualization techniques to connect with the recipient's energy field to direct healing energy to the areas where it is needed. While not always necessary, recipients may choose to relax, meditate, or simply be open to receiving the energy during a remote session. It’s always better to take a time out from the world to sit in silence and acknowledge receiving the universal life force energy.
A session feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki healing takes into account the needs of the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit — creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of motivation, ease, peace, safety, security and wellbeing.
Deeper Reiki Understanding
Reiki is a Japanese technique relating to energy healing for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use.
Energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or even emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness. The goal of energy healing is to aid the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure.
Reiki is a complementary therapy to be used in conjunction with traditional medical treatments, healthy living and other alternative healing modalities. It has been known to relieve side effects and promote recovery when an individual is undergoing an illness or healing process.
Improving the flow of energy around the body can:
aid with stress reduction, mood boosting, and increased energy levels
shift the body out of fight, flight, freeze or fawn mode and shift it to a more harmonious state
manage or relieve pain, reduce anxiety
promote relaxation and improve sleep
potentially aid in healing while reducing symptoms of illness
What it is:
Reiki is based on the idea that a universal life force energy flows through all living things and that disruptions to this energy can cause illness or emotional/mental imbalance
by channeling reiki energy through the body, this restores balance and promotes a healthy healing state
Reiki is not a religion, but a spiritual practice focused on physical, mental and emotional healing and well-being
Reiki is generally considered safe and has no known side effects
Practitioners use specific hand positions on or near the body to channel energy — through visualization
or in-person contactReiki is often used to complement other medical treatments and other alternative healing modalities
Effectiveness of Remote Reiki Sessions:
Many practitioners and recipients report that remote Reiki is as effective as in-person sessions
Some even find it to be more beneficial in certain situations, such as when a client is uncomfortable with touch or when they prefer to receive healing in a private space.
The effectiveness of Reiki, whether in-person or remote, is often tied to the practitioner's skill, intention, and the recipient's openness to receiving. It is beneficial for the recipient to acknowledge receiving the "universal life force energy”
Important considerations:
Reiki is not a cure for any disease and should not be used as a substitute for conventional medical treatment
It's important to find a qualified and reputable Reiki practitioner
If you are undergoing major medical treatment and considering Reiki, it's a good idea to discuss it with your doctor or healthcare provider
